The Hannibal-LaGrange Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree for Registered Nurses (RN to BSN) admitted its first student’s in 1986. The coursework offers the licensed RN with an associate degree or diploma an opportunity to expand his/her professional knowledge and obtain a BSN. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree for Registered Nurses is now available through Hannibal-LaGrange College’s Online Program.

New students can begin this program at any time during the academic year, with courses running concurrently for 8-12 weeks. The program is designed specifically for working registered nurses. Flexibility in scheduling allows the student to complete the program as quickly or slowly as they desire. This program includes major upper level nursing courses along with general education and foundation course work. The major nursing courses can be completed in one year if the student desires.

Major Nursing Course Requirements:

NUR 301 Healthcare Today (3 hours)
This course promotes a positive educational adjustment for RNs returning to school while developing a concept of the profession in today’s healthcare system.

NUR 303 Health Assessment (3 hours)
The course introduces basic concepts and skills needed to assess the biopsychosocial and spiritual states of the client. This course includes guided laboratory practice.

NUR 363 Geriatric Nursing (3 hours)
This course focuses on unique characteristics of older persons and their acute care challenges, risks, and service needs. The course also examines the complexities of long-term care and nursing roles in a variety of settings.

NUR 353 Nursing Theory (3 hours)
This course focuses on the development, analysis, and evaluation of nursing theory. The course includes discussion on the relationships between research, practice, education, and theory.

NUR 323 Nutrition in Health (3 hours)
Principles of nutrition including assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluation of nutritional therapy for clients throughout the lifespan are studied.

NUR 373 Bioethics (3 hours)
Bioethics focuses on principles and theories of ethics in healthcare.

NUR 433 Nursing Research (3 hours)
This course provides opportunities for students to develop an understanding of the research process, to acquire beginning skills in identification of researchable problems, and to become intelligent consumers of research findings. Prerequisites: Statistics and NUR 353 suggested.

NUR 434 Leadership and Management (3 hours)
This course focuses on leadership and management principles as applied to individuals and groups within hospital and community settings. Includes 24 clinical hours.

NUR 424 Client Education (4 hours)
This course provides opportunities for students to access, plan, implement, and evaluate client education in order to promote the health of both individuals and groups. Includes 45 clinical hours.

NUR 446 Community Health Nursing (5 hours)
This course focuses on individuals, families, aggregates, and communities as recipients of care. Students will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care given in a variety of settings. Includes 48 clinical hours.
