Campus Setting & About Hannibal
Located on the northern edge of Hannibal, the 110-acre campus is situated on the scenic bluffs rising above the Mississippi River. A portion of the campus includes a wooded area with nature trails, natural springs, and a waterfall.
The city of Hannibal, the major city of Northeast Missouri, is approximately 100 miles north of St. Louis and 30 miles northeast of Clarence Cannon Dam and Mark Twain Lake, one of Missouri’s attractive resort areas with its 285 miles of shoreline. Hannibal was settled in 1817 and incorporated in 1845.
Missouri’s most famous son, Mark Twain, spent his boyhood years in Hannibal. Two of Mark Twain’s greatest books, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, are based upon Hannibal, its surroundings, and its people. The restored Mark Twain Home and the Mark Twain Museum are open to the public. On a 300-foot-high bluff in Riverview Park, the State of Missouri has erected a statue of Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) overlooking the Mississippi he loved so well. At the foot of Cardiff Hill stands a monument erected to Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn.
