Special Scholarships State / Federal Aid Programs

Missouri Teacher Education Scholarship

This is a one-time, non-renewable, $2,000 scholarship with half being provided by the state of Missouri and half by HLGU. The HLGU award is in addition to any other scholarships received through Hannibal-LaGrange. To qualify, students must rank in the top 15% of their class or score in the top 15% on a college entrance examination. Recipients must agree to teach in a Missouri public school for five years after certification. Full-time enrollment is required. Missouri Minority Teaching Scholarship

A $2,000 scholarship is provided by the state of Missouri and $1,000 by HLGU. Missouri African, Asian, Hispanic, or Native American high school seniors, college students, or returning adults (without degree) ranking in the top 25% of their high school class and scoring at or above the 75th percentile on the ACT or SAT and majoring in education are eligible. This award is also available to individuals with both 30 college hours and a 3.0 CGPA, or individuals with a baccalaureate degree returning to an approved math or science education program. This award has a February 15 application deadline.

Missouri Aid Programs

Access Missouri Program

This award is available to Missouri residents attending a participating Missouri college or university. Recipients must be enrolled full-time and have their FAFSA submitted by April 1. Recipients of this award are determined by the state of Missouri. This award can be received for up to 10 semesters and a 2.5 CGPA must be maintained.

Missouri Higher Education Academic Scholarship (Bright Flight)

This is a renewable, $2,000 per-year scholarship available to Missouri residents attending a participating Missouri college or university as a first-time student the academic year immediately following their senior year of high school. To qualify, a student must be enrolled full-time and have a composite ACT or SAT score in the top 3% of all Missouri residents. This award can be received for up to 10 semesters and a 2.5 CGPA must be maintained.

Federal Financial Aid Programs

Federal financial aid is non-institutional financial assistance based on family need which is determined by information reported on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Once HLGU receives the results of this analysis, the Financial Aid Office will try to meet your educational costs with various aid programs. It is a federal regulation that students complete student loan entrance counseling prior to obtaining a Federal Stafford student loan. The federal government further requires that students complete student loan exit counseling prior to graduating or ceasing to be enrolled at least half-time.

Federal Pell Grants

A federally funded grant program with valiavble award amounts. Eligibility is determined on the basis of financial need as determined by the FAFSA.

Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG)

These federally funded grants are awarded to students with exceptional financial need. Students who have been accepted for admission are given priority.

Federal Work Study

This program provides on campus employment for students with established financial need. Funds are limited and awarded on a first-come. An application is required. Click here to download application
