HLGU Offers New Degree Program
Hybrid/Online Child Development Degree

HLGU ADVANCE Program’s new Hybrid/Online Child Development class will begin January 2013.

The HLGU Advance Program has expanded to include a Hybrid/Online Child Development degree. The first cohort for this new program started this past August, with 14 students. Child Development majors study children's physical, social and intellectual development. They also learn how family relationships and school environments influence children. While many Child Development students want to work with children in an educational setting, there are several career paths open to those with a child development degree. These include:

  • Operating your own home daycare
  • Teach at an accredited daycare program
  • Daycare Administrator
  • Teacher Assistant

Most importantly, this degree prepares the student to pursue a Masters degree!

The ADVANCE Program is a degree completion program serving working adults with five years full time work experience with approximately 60 credit hours from Hannibal-LaGrange University or another accredited institution with a cumulative 2.0 GPA or better, and who now would like to complete their Bachelor's Degree. ADVANCE Program students typically are employed full-time during the day, thus the program is offered in the evening. One night per week over an eighteen month period provides the student with the opportunity to earn 48-49 credit hours in class and receive up to as many as 30 additional credit hours in Credit for Prior Learning. Classes are taught in a manner that is conducive to learning for adults. An atmosphere of shared family, career, and age interests develops among the adult students.

"I just wanted to give you an update on life after graduation. On the first of September I was promoted to general manager at our Palmyra facility. I would have never been given this advancement without my degree. Thanks for all the help everyone in the ADVANCE Program provided for me while finishing my degree."   -Greg Straus, ADVANCE Program Alum
