Trojan Talk May 2010 Header - Graduation

The sound of bagpipes on a Saturday morning in May can only mean graduates from Hannibal-LaGrange University are making their way along the traditional Walk of Honor, through the iconic arch to the Mabee Sports Complex where family and friends await. The 192-member spring 2010 graduating class was all smiles and tears as the processional marked the completion of requirements necessary to earn their degree.

The speaker for this year's commencement was Rev. Dan Spencer, pastor at First Baptist Church in Thomasville, GA. Spencer voiced his expectations of the HLG graduates to create a culture that glorifies God and "rebel against the low expectations put upon you by society and rise up and show us what you’re made of. Go out there and do something to make a difference. Make history and always cherish these days you’ve had at Hannibal-LaGrange University. I know that I do."

Also at commencement, the Parkway Distinguished Scholar Award was presented to Dr. Julie Albee, professor of education at HLG. The $1,000 award is given by Parkway Baptist Church in St. Louis. Selection for the award is based on outstanding professional and personal contributions to Christian education.

reflections magazine
In an effort to limit budget costs to the institution, the HLG PR Office will not produce a summer 2010 issue of Reflections magazine. This is a one-time/one-issue elimination. We are not discontinuing the Reflections magazine altogether—just this summer’s issue. New and recap news and information will be available on the HLG website, e-newsletters, and in regular summer mailings. The next issue (Winter 2011) will go into production in December 2010 for in-home delivery in February 2011.
