Charles Dickens' Christmas Classic, "A Christmas Carol", is coming to HLGU!
Please join the Alumni Department on Saturday, December 3rd to watch the HLGU Theatre and Music Departments perform Charles Dickens's "A Christmas Carol.”
Miser Ebenezer Scrooge is awakened on Christmas Eve by spirits who reveal to him his own miserable existence, what opportunities he wasted in his youth, his current cruelties, and the dire fate that awaits him if he does not change his ways. Scrooge is faced with his own story of growing bitterness and meanness, and must decide what his own future will hold: death or redemption.
Admission is $8 and the evening will include excellent seating in Parker Theatre in the Roland Fine Arts Center, a backstage tour, and a chance to meet the cast and have them sign your playbill. This special price and tour are only available with the purchase of a ticket through the Alumni Department for the Saturday, December 3rd show.

Finding Encouragement in Discouraging Times
"Over the past 12 months, the hires rate (not seasonally adjusted) fell for federal government. The hires rate was essentially unchanged for all other industries and regions." (Labor, 2011)
For many job seekers, the economic climate and job market have not changed as rapidly as anticipated or desired. How can a job seeker stay encouraged in discouraging times?
Let me share a few personal reflections and career tips I gleaned from John 21:1-8:
1. Consider each day as a new opportunity with new possibilities.
2. Be willing to let go of yesterday's failed attempts.
3. Don't let the unemployment statistics keep you from "casting your net." There are jobs (fish) out there!
4. Keep your eyes, ears, mind, and heart open to a new approach, direction, or opportunity.
5. Allow others to help you.
6. Remember the ONE who stands ready and able to change circumstances.
