Retiring HLGU President Named President Emeritus

To honor his 33 years of service to Hannibal-LaGrange University, culminating with an18 year tenure as president, the HLGU Board of Trustees has unanimously bestowed the title of President Emeritus on Dr. Woodrow Burt. Burt will assume the title on June 16 as Dr. Anthony Allen becomes the 17th president of the school.

President Emeritus is an honorary title recognizing Dr. Burt's long-term service at the school as well as president. "We anticipate that Dr. Burt will continue to be an ambassador for HLGU in the years to come telling the school's rich story and helping us in reaching out to potential students. Building relationships with alumni and strengthening our ties with Missouri Baptists, Southern Baptists, and Christian community in general will continue to be a natural part of both Dr. and Mrs. Burt's support to HLGU," stated Rev. Terry Buster, Hannibal-LaGrange University Board of Trustees President.

Meet Dr. Anthony Allen, HLGU’s 17th President

I am deeply grateful for this opportunity to serve the Lord at Hannibal-LaGrange University. Truly, HLGU is a rare institution of stellar quality sustained by a community of scholars that are deeply committed to academic excellence that is rooted in both faith and learning. It is an honor to serve by cultivating a "shared vision of excellence" educating students to be well-prepared and exceptional in their chosen professions and calling in ministry. Stacy and I have been impressed by the HLGU family. The character of the students, staff, faculty, and administration is impressive.

At a time in when many Christian universities have abandoned their mission, as President of HLGU it is my goal to preserve this distinctively Christian university with an unshakeable determination which values both biblical truth and promotes academic excellence.

Helpful Hints from HLGU Career Services

Have you ever heard the saying . . . "If the shoe fits, wear it!?" You can apply this saying to the job search. By emphasizing compatibility experiences, skills, values, etc., a job-seeker may improve his or her employability.

It is important for job-seekers to understand that employers expect to see and hear reflections of the company's values, mission, terminology, goals, and/or purpose throughout the selection process.

They are looking for the right "fit." Unfortunately, a well-suited applicant may submit an ill-fitted resume or fail to emphasize appropriate job-related skills and background. This omission usually results in an uncomfortable experience for both the applicant and employer.

Right size, style, and comfort usually determines selection!
