Join us for the 1st Annual HLGU Winter Homecoming!
Saturday, January 18, 2014

Hannibal-LaGrange University is excited for its first ever winter homecoming, to be held Saturday, January 18, 2014, in the Mabee Sports Complex.

Events for the day include men's and women's alumni basketball games, basketball skills contest, free lunch for alumni and their families, men's and women's basketball games vs. William's Baptist College, school spirit steak dinner in the HLGU cafeteria ($7/person, pay at the door), and special entertainment in the Parker Theatre. There will also be concession stand coupons, a special performance by the HLGU cheerleaders, and an introduction of the 2013 Homecoming Court.

This year’s special entertainment is a concert featuring the group Jenny & Tyler. The event will be held in the RFAC's Parker Theatre at 7 pm, doors open at 6:30 pm . Opening musicians are local artists Melissa Yakes and HLGU alum Dan Ware ’06.

Jenny & Tyler are an acoustic folk-pop duo whose live performances strike a rare balance of intimacy and intensity. They share their songs, their stories and their lives with a candor that captivates, inspires, and transcends age and cultural divides. Regardless of background, their music hits closest to home for people who are wrestling with faith and searching for answers in an uncertain world.

Acoustic guitar, mandolin and the kick-drum made from of an old suitcase drive catchy melodies to support thoughtful lyrics as Jenny & Tyler chronicle lives marked daily by love, joy, loss, doubt, and redemption. Their blend of driving, percussive folk-pop rings of Mumford & Sons and Nickel Creek, and at times echoes popular male-female duos such as She & Him and fellow Nashville darlings The Civil Wars.

The concert will be free to all students and alumni. The public is invited to attend. Tickets for the public are $5/person at the door.

Hannibal-LaGrange University held a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, November 22 for its new science, nursing, and allied health building.

"I have a wonderful opportunity to be a part of the excitement and growth of our campus and the opportunity we have before us to construct a new building here on our campus," said Dr. Anthony Allen, HLGU President.

"God has blessed the nursing division with record enrollments and new programs that led us to outgrow our previous space in the science building several years ago," stated Anne Riggs, Director of Nursing. "Today, God is blessing us with the opportunity to break ground on a state-of-the-art facility that will enable us to better equip and train health professionals to serve our community, our profession, and our God."

"Even with our old facilities, we have been very fortunate to have some very good students. Students who have gone on to become successful medical doctors, pharmacists, physical or occupational therapists, conservationists, teachers, and you can go on and on," said Dr. Gerald Burkett, Department Chair.

Special guests that were present for the groundbreaking included Ms. Jenna Niemann of Klingner and Associates, Mrs. McKenzie Disselhorst, Director of Hannibal Area Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Louis Vannatta and Mr. David Bleigh of Bleigh Construction, and Mr. Roy Hark, Hannibal Mayor.
