Full-time students must present their HLGU ID. Part-time students must get a library card. Books from the general collection may be checked out for 21 days for the 1st checkout and 21 days for each renewal. Two renewals will be allowed. Videos, kits, CD-ROMS, cassette tapes, CDs, and pamphlets may be checked out for 3 days with only one 3-day renewal. Students may check out up to 20 items.
Checkout periods for books put on reserve are decided by the instructor. They may be "Library Use Only", "24-hour", or "3-days". Books checked out for the "24-hour" checkout period are to be returned by the hour written on the date due slip. "Three-day" reserve books may be checked out anytime during the day and returned any time during the third day.
All magazines, reference books, rare books, archives, and non-circulating materials are to be used in the library. These include HLGU yearbooks, catalogs, and student newspapers.
Audiovisual equipment is available for checkout by students for school related purposes. Personal use is not allowed. Students who lose or do not return equipment may be billed a replacement fee, which is the cost of the item with a $20 non-refundable billing fee.
Overdue items are discouraged. Students will be blocked from checking out additional items upon receiving 3 overdue notices on the same item. The third overdue notice is a bill, with a minimum $20 replacement fee plus $10 billing fee per book. Full amount is due until book is returned. No daily fines will be charged. Overdue notices will be sent out regularly. Should a person not receive a notice, he/she is still responsible for the fees. The library needs to be advised of any address changes. If someone receives notices for books he or she does not have, talk with the circulation librarian.
Students will be blocked from enrolling in classes, participating in graduation ceremonies, or receiving transcripts/diplomas for any overdue items or unpaid fees. (See the delinquent accounts section of the Hannibal-LaGrange University Catalog.) This includes MOBIUS fees -- see below.
Students may also request books through MOBIUS (Missouri Bibliographic Information User System). It is a consortium of over 50 academic libraries in the state that have joined together to share one computer system. In order to request materials, a student must use his/her HLGU ID number.
Only books from general collections may be requested from other libraries. Periodicals, rare books, reference books, reserve books, videos, or other media are not available through online requesting. Articles from periodicals and exact pages of non-circulating books may be requested via traditional interlibrary loan. A student may obtain a request form at the circulation desk.
Overdue MOBIUS items are unacceptable. Three overdue notices will be sent, with the third notice being a bill. There is a minimum $100 replacement fee plus a $20 billing fee per book. The $20 is a non-refundable fee, even if the book is returned. Students may have up to 10 MOBIUS items checked out at once. Please allow 3 days for delivery.
A community borrower card entitles you to checkout books from the Roland Library, request interlibrary loans (see link for additional charges), and ask for reference assistance. Borrowing privileges do not extend to computer use, nor are HLGU computer accounts and logins available to the public. Occasionally, when computers are not in use by students, the library may allow a Community Borrower to use a computer for educational purposes for brief periods of time. When computer use is allowed, Community Borrowers are required to present a picture id and their community borrower card, sign in, and abide by the Hannibal-LaGrange Computer User Policy. Unfortunately, Community Borrowers do not have MOBIUS privileges (online request or visiting checkout).
The cost of a Community Borrower card is $27.50 per year. The card is valid for 1 year from the date purchased. To sign up, fill out a registration card and pay the fee at the library. A Community Borrower library card will be issued to you. You must present this card each time you checkout an item.
