Library Databases - Remote Access

The L.A. Foster Library uses a proxy server that gives students, faculty, and staff the ability to access several of our databases from off campus. Below is a set of instructions for accessing the remote server.

  1. Log onto the internet via your Internet Service Provider.
  2. Type http://www.hlg.edu:8080 into your web browser. You do have to type the "http://" or it will not work.
  3. Enter your username and password. Your library username and password are different than your student portal and your network passwords. Official students and employees are sent their library username and password at the beginning of each academic year. If you forget your password or have problems with your username, please contact the library staff at
    573-221-3675 extension 2029.

Dave King and Mark Nowak administer the passwords. They may be reached in the following ways:
Dave King: david.king@hlg.edu or 573-629-3131
Mark Nowak: mnowak@hlg.edu or 573-629-3134

*Note that not all databases require remote access usernames and passwords. EBSCOhost is an example of one that does. The ERIC database is an example of one that does not. There are also some databases that are accessible only from HLG's campus. These are marked on the Databases page with an asterisk.
