Academic and Career Services

The Office of Academic and Career Services provides assistance to students in the areas of personal, academic, career, and enrichment services. The PACE program, sponsored by the Academic and Career Services Office, offers assistance in one accessible location.

The mission of the PACE program is to assist students with: adjusting to campus life, improving their GPA, declaring a major and career, awareness of on and off-campus employment opportunities, graduating and transitioning to the world of work or graduate school. In other words, PACE staff are here to help students succeed.

PERSONAL

• Community Referral – Staff can assist students with connecting to community agencies and resources.
• Consultation – Initial consultation and referral assistance is available for students experiencing emotional, behavioral, or psychological problems.

ACADEMIC

• “The Corner” – A learning/study area located in the Burt Administration Building, Room 201C, available for:

o CLEP Testing – CLEP, the College-Level Examination Program gives students the opportunity to receive college credit by earning qualifying scores on any one or more of 34 online examinations. The cost of each exam is $95 ($70 paid to ETS and a $25 administration fee paid to HLG). The additional fee for exam with essay is $10.

o Tutorial Services – Student assistants are available for class review, test preparation, and supplemental instruction. Subject area varies.

CAREER

• Job Listings – Students and Alumni can find on and off-campus job listings, internships, and community service opportunities on the Hannibal-LaGrange College Student Portal. Postings of part-time and full-time employment, graduate schools, summer jobs, internships, and college career fairs can be found on the first and second floors of the Burt Administration Building.
• FOCUS – FOCUS is a computer-based career tool designed to provide users with personalized career and education exploration and planning assistance.
• Resume Services – Critique and resource materials are available.

• FEDERAL WORK STUDY (FWS) – Through the FWS Program, eligible students work part-time to help pay for the cost of their education. Eligibility is based on family earnings, available and appropriate positions, and first-come, first-served application process.

ENGAGEMENT

• First-Year Experience – Hannibal-LaGrange College is committed to assisting new students with their transition to campus. The Academic and Career Services Office collaborate with HLG offices, academic departments, and the Hannibal community to offer new students and their families enriching and supportive experiences, such as:

o Walk of Honor – A Hannibal-LaGrange College campus tradition to welcome new students and their families.

o Orientation – Athlete, parent, and new student sessions. Click here for Orientation Schedule or Parent Handbook.

o Success in Education – Offered through the English Department, Success in Education is an eight-week course designed to help new students with less than 24 credits successfully navigate their first year at Hannibal-LaGrange College.
