HLGU Craigmiles School of Nursing Now Accepting Applications

by Rebecca Sneed

The Hannibal-LaGrange University Craigmiles School of Nursing is now accepting applications from both new and transfer students.

Gabby Patterson, a transfer student from John Wood Community College, says that with the help of the friendly HLGU staff, her transfer was seamless and that the caring faculty members, who want to see their students succeed, make all the difference.

“HLGU is a great place to earn your degree! The staff here want to see you succeed and will help you in any way they can to make sure you do,” said Gabby, who plans to graduate with her Associate of Science in Nursing degree in May 2017.

“The instructors know the material they teach and they teach it well,” she continued. “If there is something that is not understood, they take the time to make sure we are all on the same page before moving on to the next topic.”

The HLGU nursing program started 35 years ago from a community expression of need and support. HLGU was approved by the Missouri State Board of Nursing in 1981 for an enrolment of 30 nursing students per year. Since then, the program has twice received MSBN approval increase enrolment–in 2007 to 40 students per year, and in 2011 to 50 students per year.

The Craigmiles School of Nursing is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, formerly the National League for Nursing Accrediting Agency, and has maintained accreditation since 1988.

While HLGU nursing graduates can easily obtain jobs upon graduation, they are also well-prepared for continued study and the pursuit of advanced degrees. HLGU also offers a fully-online BSN degree program.

In 2015, the Craigmiles School of Nursing celebrated the opening of the Carroll Science Center, a brand new science facility at HLGU. The 40,000 square foot, 7 million dollar building houses a 58-seat computer lab/classroom, two nursing skills labs, two nursing lab hospital rooms with mid-fidelity manikins, a nursing library, multimedia classrooms, a spacious lobby, five student lounges, two group study rooms, two individual study rooms, and much more.
