HLGU Nursing Students Present Change Projects

by Rebecca Sneed

Hannibal-LaGrange University’s second year nursing students presented their annual Change Projects at Hannibal Regional Hospital on Monday and Tuesday, May 2-3.

These change projects are based on student observations and interests in areas of healthcare they feel could be added to or improved. All of the projects are developed using evidence-based nursing research and help the students to further develop critical thinking abilities and demonstrate how evidence-based research can change the practice of nursing.

“We believe it is important for the HLGU nursing students to question the status quo and ask why nurses do what they do,” said Kimi Yuchs, assistant professor of nursing. “Developing an evidence-based research change project assists in developing an attitude of inquiry along with the importance of implementing nursing research at the bedside. It is important for students to see the value of their practice in continually improving the nursing care of patients as they move forward in the profession.”
