HLGU PN Program Celebrates 53rd Annual Capping Ceremony

Twenty-seven practical nursing students were honored at a luncheon and capping service on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Fiddlestik’s Restaurant in Hannibal, MO.

These twenty-seven practical nursing students have completed the first 38 weeks of the 52 week program. Although this represents the 53rd capping ceremony for this practical nursing program, this is the fourth event since the program moved to Hannibal-LaGrange University in August 2012. The nursing program was formerly known as the Hannibal Public School of Practical Nursing and was located at the Hannibal Career and Technical Center.

The Hannibal-LaGrange University Practical Nursing Program (HLGU-PN Program) is affiliated with Hannibal Regional Hospital, Maple Lawn Nursing Home, Beth Haven Nursing Home, the Hannibal Clinic, Mark Twain Behavioral Health, the NECAC Family Planning Center, Marion and Ralls County Health Departments, and Hannibal Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse.

Members of the class receiving recognition for their achievements were: Heather Ashby, Shakari Cartmill, April Scott, and Brittanica Young of Quincy, IL; Lindsay Brennan of Keokuk, IA; Whitney Culp, Kelsey Eger, Nicole Leake, Ashley O’Brien, Jessica Price, Kylie Smith, Kalisha Tate, and Shalomi Williams of Hannibal, MO; Janet Hall-McKay of Pekin, IL; Dianna Hummel of Palmyra, MO; Lindsay Jordan of Shelbina, MO; Kristina Kimber and Amber Pellillo of Pittsfield, IL; Kai McCullar of St. Louis, MO; Heather McNeese of Eolia, MO; Candace Orange of Durham, MO; Misty Peery of Tulsa, OK; Deborah Purol and Sheena Stone of Monroe City, MO; Alicia Sigle of Chicago, IL; Sara Thompson of New London, MO; and Morgan Walker of New Canton, IL.

The practical nursing students were honored by the following HLGU Craigmiles School of Nursing faculty: Anne Riggs, MSN, RN, director; Gwenda Pollard, MSN-Ed, RN-BC, practical nursing coordinator; instructors Karry Young, MSN-Ed, RN; Lynn Ogle, BSN, RN; and Anne Wilson, BSN, RN.

Adjunct instructors for the program include Amanda St. Juliana, MSN-Ed, RN; Laura Maas, MSN, RN; Janet Stuckman, MSN, RN; Kimi Yuchs MA(N), RN; and Michelle Wallace, MSN, RN.
