HLGU Announces New Master’s Program

by Carolyn Carpenter

Hannibal-LaGrange University’s graduate and online division is now offering a Master of Education in Education Administration (MEd). This new, completely online program, is comprised of 30 graduate credit hours in 5-week courses and can be completed in just one calendar year. Applications are now being accepted for the spring 2017 semester. Classes are scheduled to begin January 16. Prospective students need to apply by January 6, at www.hlg.edu/apply.

Currently HLGU offers several master’s programs including Master of Science in Education with tracks in Teaching and Learning, Special Reading K-12, and Teaching and Learning with Initial Certification, and a Master of Arts in Leadership with tracks in Christian ministry and business management.

HLGU’s Graduate and Online Division worked closely with practicing educational administrators to design the new MEd program. “With our strong history in teacher education, we knew that touching and shaping lives as an administrator in education was just as crucial as instructing in the classroom,” stated Graduate and Online Division Director, Dr. Jill Arnold. The new MEd degree truly rounds out and enhances HLGU’s already strong online graduate programs.

When asked how this new program coordinates with HLGU’s mission, Dr. Miles Mullin, vice president for academic administration, said, “In keeping with our mission as a Christian university, this program provides another avenue through which Hannibal-LaGrange University can equip men and women with ‘knowledge for service,’ helping train the men and women who serve our schools and guide our teachers.”

The Master of Education in Education Administration program focuses on the management and leadership skills required in the Kindergarten through 12th grade academic setting. Highlights of the program include study of ethics and integrity, class action research and assessment, curriculum and instruction creation and management, school supervision, school business management and facilities, school law, and revision of a school improvement plan.
