Thornton Transfers to HLGU

Hannibal, MO - The Hannibal-LaGrange University Women’s Basketball program has recently announced the signing of point guard Trenee Thornton. She will transfer in to HLGU from the University of Missouri with two years of eligibility remaining. Thornton committed to HLGU over several other schools including UMKC, Columbia College and Newman University.
"I am very excited to come and help turn the program around," stated Thornton.
Thornton started nine games for Missouri last season and averaged 18.5 minutes per contest. In Big 12 play, she started eight games and averaged 24.7 minutes, 4.8 points and 1.8 rebounds a game. Her best performance last season came against Oklahoma State as she finished the game with 10 points and five assists.
While attending Central High School in Kansas City, MO, Thornton was honored as a four-time first team all-conference member and helped the Eagles to two conference and district championships. During her senior season she averaged 18 points, 7.6 assists and 3 steals a game while shooting 54 percent from the field. She helped lead the Eagles to a 22-5 record and was honored as a McDonald’s All-American nominee, Kansas City Star Player of the Week and participated in the Hy-Vee-Pepsi High School All-Star Challenge. Thornton also played AAU basketball for the Missouri Valley Eclipse under Coach Joe Erskine.
"[Thornton] is an exceptionally gifted athlete and person,” stated Trojan Coach Caleb Harrison. “She has a great drive to be successful and I am looking forward to being able to work with her on a daily basis. She will complement our team with her quickness and her ability to create plays. We are blessed to have her as a Trojan."
Thornton is the daughter of Bruce and Theresa Thornton. She plans to major in human services with a minor in social work while at HLGU.
