Hannibal, MO – The Hannibal-LaGrange Women’s Basketball program has recently added two more signees in guard Candice Lovings and forward Ashleigh Spencer. Lovings will transfer to HLGU from Jefferson Community College with three years of eligibility remaining while Spencer comes to HLGU from Aberfoyle Park High School in Adelaide, Australia.
Lovings shot 49 percent from the field last season at Jefferson Community College. While attending Central High School in Kansas City, MO, she averaged 13 points a game while helping her team to an ESPN high school ranking.
"This opportunity was a blessing,” stated Lovings. “I prayed to God that I wanted to play basketball for a Christian school and He handed me the opportunity. Every day I thank God for Coach Harrison. It is hard to find a coach who really cares and you can trust."
Lovings is the daughter of Neal and Wanda Lovings. She plans to major in communication arts with an emphasis in broadcasting while attending HLGU.
Spencer signs with HLGU after averaging 12 points and 6.4 rebounds a game while playing for South Australia in the under 20 national tournament. In 2010, she was a part of the South Australia under 20 team that took home the national championship. Spencer averaged 11.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest during the 2010 season.
"I am very excited to attend Hannibal-LaGrange University this season,” commented Spencer. “I like the coach’s plans for the program and I can’t wait for August."
Spencer is the daughter of Todd and Michelle Spencer and will major in criminal justice while at HLGU.
HLGU is a Division I NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) school and a member of the American Midwest Conference.
