Trojans Defeat Robert Morris 4-3

HANNIBAL, Mo. – The Trojans (1-0) kicked off the 2011 regular season Friday evening with a hard fought 4-3 overtime win against Robert Morris University (0-1).
Senior Ty Williams headed in the golden goal for the Trojans after a perfect cross from sophomore Felipe Silva in the 95th minute.
“It was a great pass by Felipe and a great opportunity in front of the goal,” commented Williams. “By the Grace of God, I was able to put it away for the win. It was definitely a total team effort.”
The Trojans got off to a great start scoring the game’s first goal in the 16th minute. Freshman Gregorio Pestana came away with the first goal of the year for the Trojans after finding a wide open net. Silva initiated the goal with a flick to sophomore Alejandro Porras who immediately passed it to Pestana to help give the Trojans a 1-0 lead and credit Silva and Porras each with an assist.
After falling behind 3-1 in the 64th minute, the Trojans quickly came back seconds later with a goal of its own by Porras. Junior Thiago Pereira found Porras inside the box to help pull the Trojans within a goal. In the 76th minute, Pereira hit the equalizer from 20 yards out off of a free kick to help send the match into overtime.
The Trojans won’t be home again until September 14 when it host Culver-Stockton College at 3:00 p.m. HLGU’s next contest will be in Des Moines, Iowa to face Grand View College on September 2 and Graceland University on September 3.
HLGU is a Division I NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) school and a member of the American Midwest Conference.
