HANNIBAL, Mo. – The Hannibal-LaGrange Lady Trojans’ record falls to 0-1 after a losing 1-4 in Friday afternoon’s contest with Taylor University.
After 19 minutes of even play, Taylor’s Cara Johnson took the wind out of the Trojan’s sails as she struck twice in the span of 10 seconds. She earned her first goal against Trojan keeper Whitney Voepel after a defensive collapse by the Trojans. Her second goal was hard to miss after she caught Voepel out of position, giving her a wide open net. Taylor Hale then made it 3-0 in favor of Taylor in the 23 minute.
The Trojans finally found its way onto the scoreboard in the 44th minute after freshman Lauren Enloe found junior Fernanda Miaci inside the box. Miaci easily tapped in the first goal of the season for the Lady Trojans to bring HLGU within two goals of Taylor.
Taylor struck quickly after the half, taking away any momentum the Trojans had gained. Taylor Hale found the back of the net for her second goal of the afternoon to increase Taylor’s lead back up to three.
The Trojans were able to get six shots off in the second half, but couldn’t find the back of the net. The ladies will now hit the road for five games with their first at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Ill. on September 5. The contest is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. The Lady Trojans won’t be home again until September 17 when it faces Lindenwood University - Belleville at 3:00 p.m.
HLGU is a Division I NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) school and a member of the American Midwest Conference.
