DES MOINES, Iowa – The Trojan Men’s Soccer team traveled to Grand View University this past Friday as it faced both No. 13 Grand View and Graceland University over the weekend.
The Trojans had a tough time against nationally ranked Grand View University. The Vikings struck early as it found the back of the net in the fourth, 11th and 19th minutes of play. The Trojans finally got on the scoreboard in the 34th minute after Mario Ferrero found Sergi Beltrol for a goal. However, Grand View added another goal just a few seconds later to take a 4-1 halftime lead.
The Trojans were only able to add one goal in the second half. Felipe SIlva made it 5-2 in favor of the Vikings after a penalty kick. Grand View added two more goals before it was done and finished with a 7-2 win over the Trojans.
On Saturday, the Trojans tried to redeem itself as it faced Graceland University. But, after a made penalty kick by the Yellow Jackets, things looked like they could once again get away from the Trojans. Javier Aguado and the Trojans thought differently as Aguado scored the next three goals to give the Trojans a 3-1 lead.
Aguado’s equalizing goal came in the 31st minute and gave the Trojans some momentum going into halftime. In the second half, Aguado gave the Trojans a 2-1 lead, after Beltol found him open in the box during the 61st minute. Aguado then completed the hat trick in the 74th minute and gave the Trojans a 3-1 lead. The Yellow Jackets climbed within one after a goal in the 82nd minute but could do no more, giving the Trojans a 3-2 victory.
