HANNIBAL, Mo. – On a cool and dreary Saturday, the Hannibal-LaGrange Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams both claimed team victories at its home meet. The women defeated both Ashford University and Benedictine University – Springfield for the Trojan Invitational team title while the men cruised past Ashford University, Quincy University, Benedictine University – Springfield, and Culver-Stockton College for the team title.
"It was a great day for the Trojan men and Lady Trojans,” commented Coach Tracy Jex. “I was very impressed at the how the women ran to the team title, learning to be patient and running as a pack. On the men's side, they accomplished what they set out to do; win the meet. The men ran well and did a great job on a new course. Overall, for both teams, it was a great day and the next step toward competing for a conference championship."
Nicole Griesbaum was the first Lady Trojan to cross the finish line as she came in third place overall in a time of 20:26. She was followed by Mandi Riddle who finished in fourth with a time of 20:34. A few seconds behind Riddle was teammate Jennifer Yoder who ran the 5K course in 20:41 with Sarah Erickson right on her heals as she ran the course in 20:44 as the two finished in sixth and seventh place. Rounding out the top five was Sarah Wilson as she crossed the finish line in ninth place with a time of 21:10.
The Lady Trojans finished 10 points ahead of second place Ashford to lay claim to the Trojan Invitational title for the third straight year.
On the men’s side, Philiph Tonui claimed the individual meet crown as he crossed the finish line in 25:56. The first place finish marks the third straight year Tonui has won the Trojan Invitational. John Bedsworth was the next Trojan to finish as he came in fourth with a time of 27:52 and was followed by seventh place finisher Troy Pace who ran the 8K course in 28:30. Tyler Malone and Brett Jones rounded out the top five finishers for the Trojans. Malone finished in ninth with a time of 28:40 while Jones came in 10th in a time of 28:48.
Like the ladies, the men claimed its third consecutive Trojan Invitational team title by finishing 15 points ahead of Ashford.
