Tonui, Griesbaum Named AMC Runners of the Week

HANNIBAL, Mo. – Both Philiph Tonui and Nicole Griesbaum have been honored as American Midwest Conference Runners of the Week after their performances at the HLGU Trojan Invite on September 10.
Tonui earned the honor after breaking the old course record that he set last year. Tonui finished the 8K in 25:56, crushing the old record of 28:10. He also finished over a minute ahead of the competition to win the Trojan Invite for the third consecutive year. Tonui also helped the men’s squad win the meet as a team for the third consecutive year.
Griesbaum finished the women’s 5K in third place in her first ever collegiate cross country race. Her time of 20:26 helped earn her the runner of the week honor. Her efforts also helped the women’s team win the Trojan Invite for a third consecutive year.
Both Tonui and Griesbaum will race this upcoming weekend at the Missouri Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo. The women’s race is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. with the men’s race to follow.
HLGU is a Division I NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) school and a member of the American Midwest Conference.
