HANNIBAL, Mo. – The Trojans had a dominating performance against Culver-Stockton Wednesday afternoon. HLGU stormed past the Wildcats 7-0 to improve its record to 4-2.
After plenty of opportunities, the Trojans finally got on the board in the 27th minute after as series of passes found a wide open Thiago Pereira in the box. Pereira, in turn, graciously struck the ball past the Wildcat keeper to give HLGU the 1-0 lead.
The Trojans struck again in the 31st minute after Pereira delivered a ball to Luis Rincon who found the back of the net to put HLGU up 2-0. Ty Williams scored the next two goals for HLGU before the first half came to a close. His first came in the 39th minute and second in the 44th minute to give the Trojans a 4-0 halftime lead.
Gregorio Pestana upped the Trojan lead to five in the 54th minute of play. Felipe Silva then gave HLGU a 6-0 lead in the 68th minute as he scored his fifth goal of the season. The Trojans final goal came off the head of Juan Rodriguez after a beautiful cross from Rincon. The goal gave the Trojans a 7-0 lead and gave Rincon his third assist of the day.
With the win came the Trojans’ and keeper Logan Miller’s second shutout of the season. The team will now prepare for its Saturday home game against Lindenwood University – Belleville. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. at Blackwell Field.
