HANNIBAL, Mo. – The Hannibal-LaGrange Men’s Soccer team opened American Midwest Conference play last Saturday in Parkville, Mo. against Park University. It took two overtimes, but the Trojans earned the 1-0 conference victory over the Pirates.
Goalkeeper Logan Miller and the stellar defensive play by HLGU gave the Trojans its fourth shutout of the season. Miller only had to make two saves as the Trojan defense limited Park to seven total shots.
The Trojans had two shots on goal in both the first and second half but were unable to get anything by Pirate goalkeeper Ryan Miller. HLGU finally found the back of the net in the 107th minute after Thiago Pereira hit the golden goal, giving the Trojans the 1-0 win.
HLGU now sits with a 7-2 overall and 1-0 conference record. The Trojans, who are receiving votes in the NAIA National Rankings, will be home this Thursday to face No. 17 Columbia College. The game is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. on Blackwell Field.
HLGU is a Division I NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) school and a member of the American Midwest Conference.
