Lady Trojans Split with Williams Baptist

HANNIBAL, Mo. – The Hannibal-LaGrange Women’s Volleyball team split its double-header with Williams Baptist College Tuesday night. With the split, the ladies are now 5-6 overall and 3-3 in the American Midwest Conference.
The Lady Trojans took the first match 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-12, 25-17) finishing in dominant form. Outside hitters Brook Van Es and Kayla Caffey tied for the team lead in kills with 13 in the first match. Libero Kayla Grier led the ladies in digs with 12 while setter Megan Henry finished with 42 assists.
In the second match of the night, the Lady Trojans battled the Lady Eagles into the fifth frame before losing 2-3 (25-15, 20-25, 25-21, 22-25, 10-15). Once again Van Es lead the team in kills with 19 while Henry continued to dish out the assists with 43. Grier finished the second match with 18 digs and was followed by right side hitter Stephanie Gustafson with 13 digs.
“We played with confidence in the first game,” commented Coach Julie Brubaker. We really served and passed well. In the second match, we fought hard but missed a few important opportunities that we weren't able to take advantage of.”
The ladies will travel to Park University, Avila University and Central Methodist University before coming back home on October 6 to face Park at 7:00 p.m. inside the Mabee Sports Complex.
HLGU is a Division I NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) school and a member of the American Midwest Conference.
