HANNIBAL, Mo. – Hannibal-LaGrange men’s soccer defeated Harris-Stowe 4-0 Saturday to win its sixth straight game and improve its conference record to 3-0.
The Trojans controlled the game from the first kick as it outshot the Hornets 25-3 and didn’t allow a single shot on goal. The shutout marks the third straight for the Trojans as it hasn’t allowed a goal in the last 319 minutes of play.
The Trojans’ first goal came in the 17th minute as Alex Porras found Mica Scaramelli inside the box. Scaramelli snuck the ball past Hornet goalkeeper Colby Poindexter to give HLGU the 1-0 lead. The Trojans would hold the 1-0 lead into the half before breaking out for three goals in the second half.
In the 51st minute, Felipe Silva found Luis Rincon deep inside the box only to have Rincon’s shot deflect off the Hornet’s goalkeeper. However, Rincon caught the rebound off of the deflection and calmly placed the ball into the back of the net to put the Trojans up 2-0.
The Trojans third goal came off the foot of Alex Porras in the 67th minute. Silva earned his second assist on the afternoon after he crossed the ball inside the box to Javier Aguado. Aguado one touched the ball to Porras who put the Trojans up 3-0 with his third goal of the season.
HLGU’s final goal came in the 82nd minute after a beautiful cross from Leonardo Garcia found Ty Williams deep in the box. Williams complimented the cross with a dazzling header which flew past the Hornet goalkeeper to push the Trojan lead to four.
The Trojans move to 8-2 with the win and will travel to Fulton, Mo. on Tuesday to battle William Woods for control of the American Midwest Conference. HLGU will be back home on October 8 for a homecoming contest against Williams Baptist at 1:30 p.m.
HLGU is a Division I NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) school and a member of the American Midwest Conference.
