Lady Trojans Upset William Woods

FULTON, Mo. – The Lady Trojans handed William Woods its first conference loss Tuesday evening in a thrilling 1-0 victory. The win boosts Hannibal-LaGrange to 3-2 in the American Midwest Conference standings and put the ladies just one game behind the first place Lady Owls.
The Lady Trojans came into tonight’s road contest minus two of its starting defenders Kate Rogles and Sarah Olson, but was still able to pick up its third shutout of the season. HLGU goalkeeper Whitney Voepel survived a barrage of Lady Owl shots, coming up with nine saves to help keep William Woods off the scoreboard.
HLGU picked up its winning goal in the 51st minute after Melissa Ramirez hooked up with Sarah Hammock off of a corner kick. Hammock finished off the corner kick with a beautiful header that snuck past Lady Owl goalkeeper Kelly Abernathy.
The ladies will now prepare for its homecoming match with Benedictine University at Springfield this Saturday. The match is set to start at 3:30 p.m. on Blackwell field.
HLGU is a Division I NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) school and a member of the American Midwest Conference.
