Trojan Volleyball Steam Rolls Stephens

HANNIBAL, Mo. – The Lady Trojans picked up its most convincing win Monday night in its American Midwest Conference match against Stephens College. The 3-0 win raises Hannibal-LaGrange’s AMC record to 5-5 for a fifth place mark in the conference standings.
After being tied at two points apiece with Stephens College, the Lady Trojans went on a tear winning the next 14 points to create a dominating 16-2 lead. Lady Trojan Erika Davis started the run with a kill after being set up by teammate Megan Henry. Davis featured four kills during the 14 point streak while Henry put up four assists. The ladies went on to win the set 25-9 to go up 1-0 on the Lady Stars.
The ladies didn’t get off to as quick of a start in the second set but eventually climbed out to a comfortable 11-6 lead. The Lady Trojans went on to win 14 of the next 22 points to easily take the second set 25-14. Lady Trojan Brook Van Es highlighted the set with 8 kills while Henry continued to dish out the assists with 14 in the second set.
The Lady Trojans started the third set off in dominating fashion as it won the first four points and eventually climbed out to a 10-4 lead. Hannibal-LaGrange would only give up seven more points to the Lady Start as it went on to win the third set 25-11 and take the match 3-0. Stephanie Gustafson led the Lady Trojan with four kills in the third set and was followed by Rachel Calderon who came away with three kills during the final set.
The win improves the Lady Trojans’ record to 9-10 as it looks to hit the .500 mark while playing in the Trojan Classic this weekend. The ladies will host the third annual Trojan Classic this Friday and Saturday. Hannibal-LaGrange’s first match in the classic will be on October 14 at 3:00 p.m. against William Woods University.
