ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Hannibal-LaGrange University junior goalkeeper Whitney Voepel has been named the American Midwest Conference women's soccer defensive player of the week after helping the Lady Trojans to two conference wins last week.
Voepel, a hometown product from Hannibal, Mo., had 12 saves on the week to earn the AMC's defensive honor, including nine huge saves to knock off then first-place William Woods University, pulling the Owls back into a third-place tie with the Trojans, who are now 5-2 in the AMC and 6-7 overall.
Hannibal-LaGrange beat William Woods 1-0, and later in the week, she posted three saves to pick up another win, as HLG won 4-0 at home against Benedictine University at Springfield. On the year, Voepel has 73 saves with a 1.62 goals-against average.
HLGU is a Division I NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) school and a member of the American Midwest Conference.
