ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Hannibal-LaGrange swept the AMC Runners of the Week honors as both Breanna Newton and Philiph Tonui earned the award with their races at the Illinois Collegiate Invite.

Newton is the American Midwest Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week after a fourth-place finish at the invite.

Newton helped the Lady Trojans to a second-place finish as a team, running in her home state after being sidelined from competition for six weeks.  She finished fourth on what was described as a quality course, beating runners from NCAA Division III teams in an unfamiliar 6K distance.

Tonui has been named AMC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second time in 2011 after winning the invite last weekend.

A senior from Kechero, Kenya, Tonui finished the 8K race in 25:58, leading wire-to-wire on the way to gold.

His first-place finish helped Hannibal-LaGrange to a fourth-place finish as a team.

Hannibal-LaGrange resumes its cross country season Saturday at the Yellowjacket Classic in Lamoni, Iowa.

HLGU is a Division I NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) school and a member of the American Midwest Conference.
