Lady Trojans Streak Ends at Seven

LEBANON, Ill. – The Lady Trojans fell 5-2 to old conference rival McKendree University Thursday night for its final regular season soccer match. The loss drops Hannibal-LaGrange’s season record to 10-8 and ends its seven game winning streak.
The Lady Trojans were outshot 22-12 and were only able to place four of its shots on goal. Hannibal-LaGrange goalkeeper Whitney Voepel finished the night with five saves for the ladies to move her season total to 110.
McKendree found its way into the lead early in the first half after a shot caromed off of the cross bar and into the feet of another Lady Bearcat who buried the ball into the back of the net.
The McKendree 1-0 lead in the 15th minute didn’t last long as the Lady Trojans tied the contest in the 23rd minute. Fernanda Miaci hit the equalizer after creating space in the box and beating the Lady Bearcat goalkeeper with a shot toward the far post.
McKendree scored the next four goals to create a 5-1 lead before Hannibal-LaGrange could strike again. In the 80th Katelyn Fray hooked up with Raelene Blanton to cut the lead to three. Blanton fought of the Lady Bearcat defenders to head the ball toward the near post and past McKendree’s goalkeeper.
The Lady Trojans will now wait for the start of the American Midwest Conference Tournament to face an opponent yet to be determined. Hannibal-LaGrange will host the AMC second round tournament game on November 7 after receiving a first round bye.
