MARSHALL, Mo. – The Trojans dropped its third loss of the season Wednesday night to Missouri Valley College in 61-48 fashion.
The Trojans had a hard time getting any offense in the first half as the team only shot 29 percent from the field and buried itself in a 15 point halftime deficit.
The Vikings used an 8-0 run to start off the first four minutes before Jurgen Lico’s jumper finally got Hannibal-LaGrange on the board. A trey by Chris Smith in the Trojans’ next possession cut the Viking lead down to three, but the Trojans could pull no closer as Missouri Valley went on another run to stretch its lead out to double figures and enter the half up 33-18.
The Trojans’ offense picked up in the second half but wasn’t enough to overcome the double digit deficit. Missouri Valley was able to match baskets with the Trojans as it built a lead as high as 20 late in the second half. The Trojans fought back to cut the lead down to 13, but could do no more.
Trojans Gerrell Wells and Alistair McCann both came away with seven points on the night while Tony Ardison and Lico finished with six points apiece. Arri Meuel, the Trojans’ leading scorer, was held to two points.
Hannibal-LaGrange’s next contest will be in Quincy, Ill. next Tuesday, November 15. The Trojans will face off against NCAA Division II Quincy University at 7:30 p.m.
Hannibal-LaGrange University is a Division I NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) institution and a member of the American Midwest Conference.
