Trojans Advance to Conference Championship

HANNIBAL, Mo. – No. 17 Hannibal-LaGrange defeated William Woods 4-0 Thursday afternoon to advance to the American Midwest Conference championship. The Trojans will face the winner of tonight’s semifinal match between Columbia and Park.
The Trojans grabbed a 1-0 lead early in the first period after a goal by Mica Scaramelli. Felipe Silva sent a ball wide of the box to Thiago Pereira who one touched it into Scaramelli who beat Owl goalkeeper Igor Dos Santos toward the near post.
The Trojans struck again in the 24th minute after Alex Porras’ cross deep into the box was tapped in by Silva. The 2-0 lead quickly change to 3-0 in a matter of seconds after Sergi Beltrol dribbled past three Owl defenders and nailed a shot into the top corner towards the near post.
Hannibal-LaGrange added another goal before the end of the half to go up 4-0 at the break. Pereira earned his second assist of the day after his cross, off of a free kick, found Javier Aguado deep in the box. Aguado easily placed the ball past the Owl’s keeper for his team leading 12th goal of the season.
Trojan goalkeeper Logan Miller earned his ninth shutout of the season as he came away with three saves on the day. Miller’s best save came off of Owl Matt Steiniger’s header deep in the box. Miller stretched out toward the far post as he made an incredible diving save to keep the shutout intact.
The Trojans will now wait for tonight’s other AMC semifinal match to find out who it will host Saturday. The November 12 contest will be played at Blackwell Field on the campus of Hannibal-LaGrange at 1:00 p.m.
