Garwood and McCoy Lead HLGU at Conference Meet

FAYETTE, Mo. - The women's track and field team finished fourth on Saturday in the American Midwest Conference Championships. The Lady Trojans finished with 81 total points, just nine behind third place Missouri Baptist, and claimed both the AMC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year and Field Athlete of the Year.
Freshman Kristen Garwood was named the AMC's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year as she won both the 5000 and 1500 meter races.
Garwood finished the 5000 meter race in 18:11.88 and the 1500 meter race in 4:50.05 to pick up her third AMC Runner of the Year honor. The Springfield, Ill. native earned the honors earlier this season in both cross country and indoor track and field to become the first Lady Trojan to sweep the AMC awards.
Senior Holland McCoy was named the AMC's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year after winning the javelin throw and placing second in the high jump.
McCoy finished the javelin throw with a toss of 35.06 meters while clearing 1.55 meters in the high jump to lay claim to her second AMC field honor. The Florissant, Mo. native also won the AMC's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year earlier this season becoming the first Lady Trojan to sweep the conference's field honors.
