Hannibal-LaGrange University will be co-hosting a Martin Luther King Jr. celebration in conjunction with the Hannibal African American Life & History Project on Sunday, January 19, from 2-5 pm in the Parker Theatre of the Roland Fine Arts Center.

Faye Dant, Executive Director of the HAALHP, will emcee the event and Dr. Anthony Allen, HLGU President, will give opening remarks. Participation by other community members will include the reading of children's books about Dr. King and a blessing of the event.

The Embassy Youth Group and the First Christian Church choir of New London will perform. After the event, guests are welcome to a reception in the RFAC lobby with cake and refreshments.

When asked about why this event is being held, Dant replied, "we want this to be a 'community unity and service' event. The celebration will be more like an informal birthday celebration or party."

HLGU students and the Hannibal community are welcome to attend the free event.
