The HLGU Theatre Department will be presenting three performances of The Music Man April 3-5, at 7 pm in the Parker Theatre of the Roland Fine Arts Center.
The Music Man by Meredith Willson, depicts con-man Harold Hill who arrives at sedate River City, Iowa, intending to cheat the community with his scam of offering to equip and train a boy's marching band, then skip town with the money, as he has no musical skill. Things go awry when he falls for a comely librarian whom he tries to divert from exposing him while he inadvertently enriches the town with a love of music.
"The Music Man is one of my all-time favorite musicals and I am very excited to have the opportunity to play Professor Harold Hill," stated Nathan Hammock, a senior music major and Hannibal native. "There is a lot of work to be done in order to make this musical a success and I believe between the students, theatre director Sabrina Price, vocal coach Lori Scott, and orchestra conductor Mr. Frank North, we are going to have a fantastic show!"
"We have Mark Twain Chorale members that made the choice to assist in the chorus. We also have children from the community as well," said Lori Scott, Music Instructor. "What that does is gives the event a multi-generational feel. The town of River City, Iowa will come to life by the variety of ages we have participating."
"We invite people of all ages to come to a wonderful night of entertainment," said Sabrina Price, Director. "The Music Man is a fun upbeat musical featuring loved songs such as Seventy-Six Trombones, Pick-a-Little, Talk-a-Little, Lida Rose, and Shipoopi. Rehearsal is underway for the musical and excitement is already in the air. We are also excited to have a few children and chorus roles filled by community members."
Tickets are now on sale. Cost for admission is $9 a ticket in advance and $10 per ticket at the door. Admission for seniors 60+ is $8 in advance and at the door. For groups of 10 or more, admission is $8 per ticket.
