Hannibal-LaGrange University's first Winter Homecoming in the University's history turned out to be a success. The event, which was held on Saturday, January 18, invited HLGU friends and family to gather together on campus for a day of fun, fellowship, and worship.

Winter Homecoming events included men's and women's alumni basketball games, a basketball skills contest, free lunch for alumni and their families, men's and women's basketball games vs. William's Baptist College, and school spirit dinner in the HLGU cafeteria. There were also concession stand coupons, a special performance by the HLGU cheerleaders, and an introduction of the Homecoming court.

To top off the day, HLGU hosted a free concert for students and alumni featuring husband and wife duo Jenny & Tyler. The concert was held at 7:00 pm in the Parker Theater of the Roland Fine Arts Center. Opening for Jenny and Tyler were local artist and singer/songwriter Melissa Yakes, accompanied by HLGU alum Dan Ware '06.

Jenny & Tyler are an acoustic folk-pop duo whose live performances strike a rare balance of intimacy and intensity. The duo were on-hand after the concert to share the stories behind their songs, sign autographs, take pictures with fans, and even pray with various HLGU alumni. Katie Brandenburg, a 2010 graduate from HLGU turned residential director on campus, really enjoyed the day and was especially impressed with the turn out at the Jenny and Tyler concert. "Going to the Jenny and Tyler concert was probably the highlight for me," said Brandenburg. "I thought homecoming went really well. It was a lot of fun to cheer on some old friends at the alumni games. Plus, seeing both of the HLGU basketball teams win was really cool!"

With the satisfactory attendance at HLGU's first winter homecoming, HLGU friends and family can expect to have another next year.
