2014 Trojan Turkey Trek Welcomes Enhancements

HLGU's Annual Trojan Turkey Trek receives a revamping as the TTT committee plans the 2014 race scheduled for November 1 at 8:30 am. Among the changes occurring will be a move toward the more accurate chip timing with Splitmaster out of Sikeston, MO, and enhancement of the Kids Fun Run course, allowing for a more enjoyable overall experience. In addition, the committee has listened to feedback from past TTT runners. This year's complimentary t-shirt will be a performance short sleeved shirt.

The 5K combination road and trail race weaves through the HLGU campus, along a couple residential streets and down the beautiful HLGU nature trail. "Due to the construction of the new science building, we are in the process of finalizing the new 5K route," stated Carolyn Carpenter, Director of Public Relations. "The nature trail will remain the featured section of the course, but veteran TTTers will most likely notice some changes - including a construction site near the original starting line." The race will still introduce the runners to some of Hannibal's hills.

Platinum level sponsors of the event are Hannibal Regional Healthcare System, and the Hannibal Courier Post. Additional sponsors are Big River Pest Control, Fiddlestiks, General Mills, and KHQA. The HLGU men's service group, Phi Beta Delta, will be designing an entertaining course for the Kids Fun Run.

Proceeds from the event will help offset student fundraising endeavors for HLGU mission trips. Hannibal-LaGrange University has been nationally recognized and awarded for the mission emphasis of the school. Students have opportunities each semester break (fall, Christmas, spring, and summer) to participate in missions or service projects locally, nationally, and internationally.

The cost is $30 for adult racers, $25 for HLGU students, faculty, staff, and alumni, $10 for the Kids Fun Run, and $75 for families up to five. All 5K racers registered by October 17 are guaranteed a performance t-shirt. Registration fee increases to $40 on October 18 and registrants will not receive a shirt.
