HLGU Holds Practical Nursing Pinning and Graduation Ceremony

The second annual Pinning and Graduation Ceremony honoring the students of the Hannibal-Lagrange University Practical Nursing Program was held on August 14, 2014 at the Roland Fine Arts Center on the university campus. A class of 27 students received their pins after a 52 week course of study in the Practical Nursing Program.
The HLGU-PN Program was established in 1961 and was sponsored by the Hannibal Public School System until its relocation and change of sponsorship to HLGU in August 2012. This graduating class represents the fifty-first for this program.
The graduates are Cassandra Amsden of Griggsville, IL; Casey Austin, Kary Franks, Jennifer Goings, Kristina Myers and Alexis Norcross of Quincy, IL; Jessica Christy, Teresa Harris and Tara Waters of Monroe City, MO; Chauncey Cogdal, Alex Crane, Shelby Gravett, Samantha Leake, Lyndsey Pafford, Kayla Riley, Gabriel Robertson, Leighan Waelder, Haley Ward and Brooke Zeiger of Hannibal, MO; Kassie Crowe of Palmyra, MO; Elizabeth Gause and Rebecca Jones of Emden, MO; Kelsey Harter of Pleasant Hill, IL; Mackenzie Miller of Stoutsville, MO; Darrien Morrison of Mendon, IL; Jasmine Payton of St. Louis, MO; and Kelly Rossiter of Ursa, IL.
Recipients of the special awards were: Alex Crane, General Nursing Proficiency Award; Lyndsey Pafford, Clinical Nursing Award; Lyndsey Pafford, Brandie Kearns Memorial Nursing Personality Award; and Elizabeth Gause, Jennifer Goings and Samantha Leake for the Hannibal Clinic Award. Scholastic Achievement Awards were presented to the top 20% of the class and were received by: Jessica Christy, Valedictorian; Leighan Waelder, Salutatorian; Haley Ward, third ranking student; Elizabeth Gause fourth ranking student; and Cassandra Amsden and Kelsey Harter fifth ranking students. Jessica Christy was awarded the Beth Haven Community LPN Scholarship. Awards were made possible by the Northeast Missouri Medical Society, Hannibal Regional Hospital, the family and friends of Brandie Kearns, the Hannibal Clinic, Maple Lawn Nursing Home and Beth Haven Nursing Home.
The guest speaker for the evening was Mrs. Linda Dinges, MSN, RN, Director of the Chris Coons Womens' Care Center at Hannibal Regional Hospital. The class song was presented by vocalist Joe Johnson. Pictures were done by Angela's Digipix.
The Hannibal-LaGrange University Practical Nursing Program is a fifty-two week educational program located on the university campus. The program is affiliated with Beth Haven Nursing Home, Hannibal Clinic, Hannibal Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Hannibal Regional Hospital, James E. Cary Cancer Center, Maple Lawn Nursing Home, Marion County Health Department, Mark Twain Behavioral Health, NECAC Family Planning and Ralls County Health Department. Faculty include Gwenda Pollard MSN-Ed, RN-BC, Coordinator/Instructor; Instructors Karry Young MSN-Ed, RN and Laura Mathews, BSN, RN; and Adjunct Instructors Ann Wilson, BSN, RN, Cody Smashey, ASN, RN, Laura Davis-Maas, MSN, RN, Amanda St. Juliana MSN-Ed, RN, Michelle Wallace MSN, RN, and Kimi Yuchs MA(N), RN, NE-BC.
