Hannibal, MO - The Circle K organization at Hannibal-LaGrange College has participated in Operation Christmas Child for the fourth year in a row. Thanks to generous donations from HLG faculty and students, as well as a shopping spree within the organization, they were able to complete and wrap 45 shoe boxes full of goodies, and are planning another wrapping session on November 7 where they hope to do 55 more boxes.
Last year over 7.6 million shoe boxes were collected worldwide and distributed to children in 95 countries. The boxes are filled with toys, a tooth brush, toothpaste, soap, socks, stickers, etc. according to the sex and age of the child. The Circle K members like to add a personal touch by including a note and a picture of themselves.
“I believe God blesses the ministry of Operation Christmas Child. It is a blessing to see the videos of the children receiving the gifts and the wide smiles on their faces,” says Misty Jones, Circle K president. Other officers include Katie Wiskirchen, vice president, and Kim McBride, secretary and public relations. Al Sarno, instructor of human services at HLG, is the faculty advisor.
Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan's Purse, a Christian organization who provides aid to those in need. For more information about this project please visit www.samaritanspurse.org.
