Hannibal, MO-The Hannibal-LaGrange College softball team recently signed Amanda Smith of Baylis, IL for the 2007-2008 season. Smith will graduate in May of 2007 from Griggsville-Perry High School.

Smith has been one of the top three athletes at Griggsville-Perry for the last four years, excelling at volleyball, basketball, and softball. She has decided to concentrate on softball at HLG. She has received many honors during her high school softball career so far, including Pike County All-Conference, Quincy Herald Whig All-Area, Jacksonville Journal All-Area, and KHQA Athlete of the Week. Academically she is a member of the National Honor Society and a four year Honor Roll student.

"We have had our eye on Amanda for several years and have watched her progress into one of the top pitchers in the area,” said HLG Head Softball Coach Dan Hurst. “She also has shown that she can be very productive at the plate as a hitter with good power. Her versatility doesn't stop there, at first base she is solid. Amanda is a great all around athlete that has worked hard to be successful on the field and in the classroom,” continued Hurst. “She is a young lady of strong character and the kind of student athlete that we are excited about coming to HLG. I believe she will have a great impact on our softball program and will help us continue to improve."

Smith intends to major in biology at HLG and plans on attending chiropractic school after that.

Smith is the daughter of Doug and Sheila Smith.

HLG is a Division I NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) school and a member of the America Midwest Conference.
