HLG HOSTS ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOL ART COMPETITION

Hannibal, MOŚThe Hannibal-LaGrange College art department will sponsor the 18th Annual High School Art Competition March 14-31. The awards ceremony will take place on Friday, March 16 at 1:00 p.m. in the lobby of the Roland Fine Arts Center.
More than 350 entries are expected from area Missouri and Illinois high school students. Artwork will be judged in the categories of graphite/charcoal, ink, pastel, colored pencil, oil painting, acrylic painting, watercolor painting, mixed media, pottery, and sculpture. First, second, and third place and honorable mention will be recognized in each category.
The winner of the Best in Show award receives $100 cash and a $4,000 scholarship to HLG. Awards are also given for Best in Drawing, Best in Painting, Best in 3-D Media, and Best in Mixed Media; recipients of those awards receive a $25 cast prize and a $2,000 scholarship to HLG.
Robin Stone, HLG assistant professor of art, is coordinator of the annual art competition. Art faculty at HLG will serve as judges during the event. The main purpose of the competition is to provide an opportunity for area high school art students to exhibit their artworks and to compete with each other, according to Stone.
Approximately ten schools from Northeast Missouri and West Central Illinois are expected to participate. Winning entries will be exhibited in the Hagerman Art Gallery. The public is invited to view the exhibit. For more information, contact Stone at (573) 221-3675, ext. 237.
