Hannibal, MO. - On March 24 and 25, the Hannibal-LaGrange College men's soccer team participated in the 2007 National Collegiate Futsal Championship held in Milwaukee, WI hosting 11 NAIA Colleges,  and organized by Cardinal Stritch University and the US Futsal Federation.

On Saturday, March 24, HLG defeated Embry-Riddle (Arizona) 6-3, tied with nationally ranked #11 Lindsey-Wilson College 10-10, and defeated Cardinal Stritch "B" Team 17-7. These scores allowed HLG to be first in their group and advance to the semi-final, where they defeated nationally ranked #20 Bethel College (Indiana) 5-4 and played the final against Cardinal Stritch University where they tied 5-5. The tie breaker was penalty kick shootouts where HLG goalkeeper, Raul Martinez, saved two penalty kicks giving HLG the victory.

Miguel Ramirez was awarded offensive MVP of the tournament, and the entire HLG team was praised for their fair-play attitude.

The term “futsal” is derived from the Spanish or Portuguese word for soccer, and the French or Spanish word for indoor. The game is played on basketball sized courts, both indoors and out without the use of sidewalls. For more information please visit www.futsal.com.
