Hannibal, MO—Hannibal-LaGrange College's Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Vision, a Southern Gospel men's quartet, will tour Louisiana April 13 through April 17. On Saturday, April 14 the groups will go to the downtown/French Quarter area of New Orleans, LA and take in such sights as Jackson Square, Cafe Du Monde, the French Market, Riverwalk Marketplace, and the Aquarium of the Americas. Sunday, April 15 will be a performance for the host church, Williams Boulevard Baptist Church in Kenner, LA during the morning service, and again that evening at Sherwood Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, LA. On Monday, April 16 the groups will visit the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in the morning and do some cleaning and clearing of brush at the New Orleans City Park. Tuesday, April 17 they will stop in Bowling Green, MO on their way home to perform for the Eastern Missouri Cowboy Church.
All three groups are directed by David Corkern, assistant professor of music at HLG. “Our band students seem to be getting excited about the upcoming trip to New Orleans,” says Corkern. “I hope for a three-pronged experience...some opportunities for performance, a chance to do some hurricane relief, and to immerse ourselves in the culture...and FOOD of New Orleans!”
