Annual Jazz Supper Coming Up

Hannibal, MO – Tuesday, February 15, 2011, in the Hannibal-Lagrange University Cafeteria (located in the Partee Center) the HLGU Department of Music and Pioneer College Caterers invites the public to attend the annual HLGU Jazz Supper. The HLGU Blues Band and Jazz Choir will begin performing at 5:00 p.m. and the meal will be served until 6:30 p.m. The price of admission is $6.00 for the southern meal and musical entertainment.
The HLGU Blues Band is made up of Matt Assel, Austin Birkhead, Sara Keck, Jake King, Michelle Todd and John Booth. They will play a variety of songs by Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Johnny Lang, Peggy Lee and B.B. King. The music will be both from the Delta and Urban blues traditions and a parallel and intertwined style with Jazz. Dr. John Booth is the director of the blues band.
The HLGU Jazz Choir will be singing Cloudburst and Everybody’s Boppin’ by Jon Hendricks – Bebop style of jazz (fast improvisations and technically challenging), I Hope You Dance & Come in from the Rain by Tia Sillers and Melissa Manchester, and Bim-Bom by Joao Gilberto, a Brazilian jazz in the style of the bossa nova. Solos will be performed by Meagan Connelly, Katelyn Fray and Regina Pruitt. The HLGU Jazz Choir performs for public schools and civic functions throughout the school year.
