Hannibal, MO – The Trojan seniors came up big on senior day as Hannibal-LaGrange University took out nationally ranked Park University Saturday.
The loss knocked the Pirates out of its first place standing in the American Midwest Conference and possibly the NAIA national rankings.
Senior forward Fernando Fernandez led the Trojans with 20 points scored while also grabbing 15 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the season. Following Fernandez were senior guards Josh Boswell, Tomas Trujillo and Brock Webber with 15, 13 and 11 points, respectively.
The Pirates were led in scoring by junior guard Reco Anderson with 12. Complimenting Anderson with 10 points apiece were Goldeng Deng, Derrick Howard, Travis Fairley, and Eduardo Quintero.
HLGU trailed 42-36 at the half and found itself down by 10 at the 12:24 mark after a trey by Anderson. However, the Trojans used a 19-9 run to tie the game with 44 seconds left after a pair of free throws by Webber. HLGU then gained possession back after an offensive foul against Howard with 15 seconds left on the clock. After a pair of Trojan timeouts, Webber tapped a loose ball to Fernandez who laid in the game winning points for a 75-73 Trojan victory.
The Trojans will close out the regular season next Saturday in St. Louis, MO against conference rival Missouri Baptist University at 4:00 p.m.
