Newton, Townsend Named AMC Athletes of the Meet

Hannibal, MO – Breanna Newton and Andre Townsend both earned the honor of being named the American Midwest Conference track athletes of the championship indoor conference meet.

Newton was crowned the conference champion in the mile, 800 meter run and the distance medley relay.  In the mile, Newton broke the school record with a time of 5:22.76 and was named to the All-Conference team all three events.

Townsend was named conference champion in the 60 meter hurdles, 200 meter dash and 400 meter dash.  Townsend earned All-Conference recognition all three events and broke the school record in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.57 seconds.

“I am proud of both Andre and Breanna and the effort they put forth at the AMC meet,” said Coach Jason Lewkowicz.  “They are both wonderful representatives of Hannibal-LaGrange University and it is great that they were able to receive this honor.”

Both Newton and Townsend will participate in the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships on March 3-5 in Geneva, OH.
