22nd Annual High School Art Competition

Hannibal, MO - The Hannibal-LaGrange University Art Department will sponsor the 22nd Annual High School Art Competition on Friday, March 18. The awards ceremony / gallery opening will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Hagerman Art Gallery in the Roland Fine Arts Center.
Over one hundred entries are expected from area Missouri high school students. Artwork will be judged in the following categories: Drawing Media - graphite/charcoal, ink, pastel, and colored pencil; Painting media – oil, acrylic, and watercolor; 2-D Media - mixed media, photography and print making; and 3-D Media - pottery and sculpture. First, second, and third place and honorable mention will be recognized in each category.
The winner of the Best in Show award receives $100 cash and a $4,000 art scholarship to HLGU. Awards are also given for Best in Drawing, Best in Painting, Best in 3-D Media, and Best in Mixed Media; recipients of those awards receive a $25 cash prize and a $2,000 art scholarship to HLGU.
Robin Stone, assistant professor of art at HLGU, is the coordinator of the annual art competition. Art faculty at HLGU will serve as judges during the event. The main purpose of the competition is to provide an opportunity for area high school art students to exhibit their artworks and to compete with each other, according to Stone.
Approximately seven schools from Northeast Missouri are expected to participate. Winning entries will be exhibited in the Hagerman Art Gallery. The public is invited to view the exhibit.
