Hannibal, MO – The Hannibal-LaGrange University Theatre Department is proud to present the classic play Life With Father, written by Howard Kindsay and Russel Crouse. Performances will be Thursday-Saturday, April 14-16 at 7:00 p.m. in the Parker Theatre in the Roland Fine Arts Center.
Life With Father opened on Broadway in 1939 and holds the record for the longest running non-musical play on Broadway, boasting a seven year run. The play was based on Clarence Day, Jr.’s autobiographical book, God and My Father. As the title suggests, the story deals with religion as the main character, Clarence, reveals to his wife, Vinnie, that he has never been baptized. Upon hearing this news, it becomes Vinnie’s quest to make sure that this oversight is rectified so that they will be reunited after death, but Clare refuses, certain that God would never be so imprudent as to deny him entry into Heaven. This classic theatrical piece about a wealthy, cantankerous stock broker, his wife and their four boys, living in Manhattan in the 1890’s is sure to delight young and old alike.
