Hannibal, MO - In a back-and-forth match that featured dozens of ties and lead changes No. 3 seeded Park University defeated No. 7 seeded Hannibal-LaGrange University in four sets to advance to the MAMVIC West conference tournament final against No. 1 Lindenwood.
The Pirates had to fight back from down a set, and rolled to three straight set victories winning the match, (30-32, 25-20, 25-18, 27-25). The loss ends the Trojans’ run through the MAMVIC West Tournament.
After its upset victory over No. 2 seeded Johnson and Wales, the Trojans advanced to the semifinals and improved its record high win total to 12. However, after taking game one from Park, the Trojans couldn’t find its way back on the winning side. HLGU came close in sets two and four but the Pirates held off the Trojans and limited its serving errors, which initially kept the Trojans close.
The 2011 season has now come to an end for the Trojans. The team finished the year with an overall record of 12-17 which included six wins over nationally ranked opponents. The Trojans also were honored with two athletes being named to the all-conference team. Matheus Roham was named as a first team member of the all-conference team while teammate Tom Burke was named to the honorable mention all-conference team.
